What Customers Say About Café Altura Organic Coffee, Biodynamic French Roast, Whole Bean, 32-Ounce Bag:

Figured I would save some money seeing Peets costs more. I mix this with my Peets french roast like I read in one reveiw and cuts the edge off the strong taste. If you like strong smokie taste then its for you , for me and my tummy its to strong.
I have had much better coffee and my husband calls me a coffee snob. It even looks and smells burnt. I really don't like this coffee. I don't know if this is true of all French Roasts and if that is something that others who like French Roast like, but this coffee tastes burnt to me. The beans are black.
"Biodynamics" is a theory that holistic agriculture using homeopathy, shamanism, and astrology will harmonize nature to produce superior products. Sell me delicious coffee, but leave out the nonsense. The great quality and flavor of these beans is negated by the claim of "Biodynamic" growing methods. No plausibility, no evidence, just unjustifiable claims.
That gets too political thought. In particular it does not have any nasty citric aftertaste. It's a good coffee. 'organic' coffee is still mostly monoculture, and the old growth is chopped down anyway. I'm probably on my 8th bag or so. I use it for espresso. I know some people like citric aftertastes, I am not one of them. The 'biodynamic' label sounds really new-wave hookie pokish, but coffee tastes fine.
Using a french press, I enjoyed a cup and was pleased with the aroma and flavor which was strong, tangy, a hint of sweetness and not bitter. The beans are uniform in size and properly prepared into a french roast; dark, oily, but not burnt. I had been enjoying a Nicaraguan Organic French Roast for the last few months costing approximately the same price per pound, and Cafe Altura is clearly a better prepared coffee. Cafe Altura's French Roast is a very good coffee. Packaged in a sealed container, upon opening it you are met with an intense aroma of dark roasted coffee. Overall, this is a very good french roast, especially considering the price.
